Marcey Shapiro MD

Marcey Shapiro, MD is a family physician. She also has extensive training and experience in many areas of natural medicine including Western and Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, mind body techniques, flower essences, homeopathy, breathing techniques, nutritional therapies, Scenar® and hands on modalities including Ortho-bionomy® and Biodynamic Osteopathy.  Her approach to care is patient centered and participatory.

Marcey works with patients to address the many facets of illness/imbalance including biophysical, psychological and spiritual concerns, then, with the patient, evolves a realistic treatment plan that might utilize a variety of modalities. Her medical philosophy is to work with the most effective, least invasive therapies that might help the patient, while improving diet, decreasing stress, improving exercise, and, most importantly, finding ways to increase happiness, joy and meaning in life.

Marcey has meditated almost every day since she was sixteen years old. This practice has helped her develop greater inner peace and harmony. She loves to teach meditation and mindfulness techniques, and knows that everyone has an innate ability to calm the mind and listen quietly within. Over the years she has gathered many tools for helping people find an approach to meditation and mindfulness that works for them.

She has personally utilized herbal medicines for over 35 years, and has taught herbal and natural health for over 25 years in a variety of settings.  She continues as a student as well as a teacher, always eagerly discovering new information in partnership with the natural world. She loves to listen to plants, rocks, animals, insects, trees and the wisdom of her heart to find the pearls of wisdom each of these has to offer her.

Dr. Shapiro is a long time student of the teachings of Abraham-Hicks and loves to help patients work consciously with Law of Attraction to achieve their goals.

Nutritionally she’s generally a Weston A Price Foundation (WAPF) enthusiast; she feels the WAPF model provides a humane, healthy, and sustainable life for all beings involved; human, plant, insect and animal. But she understands that each person is unique and tailors her dietary recommendations to what is best and realistic for each person. Marcey also promotes eating consciously, understanding that we eat not only foods but our thoughts and beliefs about them. She reminds people frequently to remember eat in a calm and harmonious setting, savor the flavors of their foods, and if dining with others to have pleasant, uplifting conversation.

Dr Shapiro has many other interests that she also pursues.  She loves gardening, writing, painting, exercising, astronomy, travel, time with her pets and loved ones, and time in nature. She keeps bees, more for ecological considerations than for the honey, but she does like honey too.

She is writing a number of books, on health philosophy and individual health topics. The first two have been published by North Atlantic Books - Transforming the Nature ofHealth A Holistic Vision of Healing That Honors Our Connection to the Earth, Others, and Ourselves. was released in 2012, and the second one Freedom From Anxiety was released in 2014.
